Legally Blonde Equity Principal Auditions
1st National Tour
Producers: Hal Luftig, Fox Theatricals, Dori Berinstein et al.
Music and Lyrics: Laurence OKeefe and Nell Benjamin
Book: Heather Hach
Director/Choreographer: Jerry Mitchell
Music Director: James Sampliner
General Manager: Nina Lannan Associates / Maggie Brohn
Casting: Telsey + Company
1st National Tour 1st rehearsal: On or about August 11, 2008.
1st Performance: Week of September 22, 2008.
NOTE: This new musical is based on the 2001 film of the same name.
Seeking performers for the following roles in the 1st National Tour production:
Elle Woods:
Female, early 20s. The quintessential California blonde. Elle radiates good will and utter confidence. Beautiful (though not necessarily THE most gorgeous of her sorority, Delta Nu), Elle commands attention. She's a natural born leader and believes in the power of positive thought. Elle is always put together even when wearing a sloppy ponytail, she looks polished. Needs sharp comic skills and a strong high belt singing voice.
Emmett:
Male, mid - late 20s, any ethnicity. A good-hearted, smart, and witty Harvard Law Teaching Assistant. Not obviously handsome but cute. Lovable and a tad goofy. Needs sharp comic skills and a strong singing voice.
Paulette:
Female, mid-30s mid-40s, any ethnicity. A blowzy, down on her luck manicurist/hairdresser. Not well-educated but has a heart of gold. Her insecurity radiates almost as strongly as her sweetness. Her body's a bit soft and it doesn't exactly scream gym. She's been dealt a series of hard knocks in life but still wants to believe in love. Needs sharp comic skills and a strong singing voice.
Professor Callahan:
Male, 40s - 50s, any ethnicity. A Harvard Law Professor. Handsome and knows it. When Callahan enters a room, he does it in all capital letters. Lots of attitude, huge sense of entitlement, and maybe a little scary. Well aware of his big brain and his reputation. Needs sharp comic skills and a strong singing voice.
Warner:
Male, early 20s, any ethnicity. Physically striking, looks like he walked out of a Ralph Lauren ad. It's obvious Warner always got exactly what he wanted out of life and will continue to do so for his natural-born existence. Bright but still makes you wonder if Daddy pulled some strings to get into Harvard. He's not necessarily arrogant but has an assuredness that everything will continue to fall his way as a birthright. Needs sharp comic skills and a strong singing voice.
Vivienne:
Female, early - mid 20s, any ethnicity. A Harvard Law student who reeks of good breeding and summers in the Hamptons. Privileged, beautiful, and wickedly smartand well aware of all three. A snob. Needs sharp comic skills and a strong singing voice.
Brooke:
Female, late 20s early 30s, any ethnicity. Gorgeous and self-assured, creator of her own fitness empire with the body to show for it. She's got a bit of an edge and calls it like she sees it. Loyal to a fault. And did we mention she has a body to show for it? Needs sharp comic skills and a strong singing voice.
Enid:
Female, 20s, any ethnicity. Crunchy lesbian law student. Righteous and brilliant and loves to point out how her points work. Always. A little bitter maybe and cocky about her big brain. Needs strong pop belt singing voice and comic chops.
Margot:
Female, early 20s. Delta Nu sorority sister of Southern California and one of Elle Woods best friends. The term Ohmygod was made for girls like Margot. Not the brightest bulb on the Christmas tree but a sweet girl. She sees the fun in everything and embodies the enthusiastic reality of sororities. Loves fashion, her girlfriends and frozen yogurt equally. Needs sharp comic skills, a strong singing voice and dancing ability.
Pilar:
Female, early 20s, non-Caucasian (African-American, Latina, Asian, etc.). Member of Delta Nu sorority of Southern California and one of Elle Woods best friends. She is one-third of the trio (joining Margot and Serena) of consummate sorority girls who guide Elle through her journey and comment on the action as a Greek chorus. She longs to be like Beyonce. Think girl power. Adorable, energetic, and sassy, with a great physique. Needs a strong singing voice, sharp comic skills, and dancing ability.
Serena:
Female, early 20s. Delta Nu sorority sister of Southern California and one of Elle Woods best friends. She is one-third of the trio (joining Margot and Pilar) of consummate sorority girls who guide Elle through her journey and comment on the action as a Greek chorus. She will do anything for her sisters. She takes being a sorority girl very seriously. Think girl power. A leader. Adorable and energetic, with a great physique. Needs a strong, high belt singing voice, sharp comic skills, and dancing ability.
