Actor Needed for NY Scene Showcase

Posted by: "alyoop7@aol.com" alyoop7@aol.com   aly1act

Wed Apr 2, 2008 7:37 pm (PDT)

I need an actor to play "Bruce" opposite my character "Prudence" to perform the first scene of the?play "Beyond Therapy." We will perform it in a "Master Showcase"?for the?Goldmine Theatre Company, located at the Kraine Theatre in the East Village. It will be an evening of various scenes.

There?will be at least one agent in attendance, scheduled through Goldmine. After the scenes the agent remains in the theatre to talk one-on-one with each actor, and perhaps express in interest in working with him or her. Performers are free to invite as many?additional industry people as they want.?All industry will?be comped at the door. Non-industry attendees?(your friends and family) will be?charged 15 dollars per ticket.

The ideal actor will have an age range of 31-38 and be attractive, Caucasian, and b/tw 5' 10'' and 6' 1''.?John Lithgow played this role originally, so someone having his offbeat, pleasant, and easygoing quality would be a big plus! Also, I will give priority to northern NJ residents. I live in Montclair and it would just be easier for us to rehearse at each others' homes that way. So if you live relatively close to Montclair that will be a huge?consideration.

Please send your headshots/resumes?to me at:? alyoop7@aol.com.

Thanks,

Alyson

I am an NYU student writing and directing a short film, which is scheduled to be shot this coming weekend, April 4th – 6th, in the Newark, New Jersey area (just a 20-30 minute drive).

The film, titled "Never Say Jesus," tells the story of two Bible salesmen who travel throughout the Midwest. I am in search of an actor—Male/Caucasian/35-60—to play the part of Don, one of the salesmen's clients. Don's scenes will be shot over the course of one day, Sunday, April 6th, for no more than 10 hours in total.

I will be working with a small crew (less than 15 people). We will be shooting indoors (out of the rain). Meals and transportation will be provided (you will not have to stay in New Jersey overnight). And, of course, you will be credited in the film for your contributions.

This is a great opportunity to help collaborate with enthusiastic student filmmakers. Email me ASAP if you are interested in acting, and I can send you the script. If possible, please provide a headshot. My email is mrs396@nyu.edu

This is one of five fully-produced AEA Showcases which comprise GAYFEST NYC, a festival of new GLBT plays. GAYFEST NYC, Inc. is a 501 (c) (3) not-for-profit corporation whose beneficiary is Harvey Milk High School in Manhattan.
More information can be found at www.GAYFESTNYC.com.

SUMMARY: The compelling story of a woman forced to confront her own identity. After being diagnosed with a fatal disease, Emma makes a decision to spare her husband the pain of watching her die. She leaves him and, to her surprise, discovers that she is attracted to a woman, then faces the possibility that perhaps she left her marriage less to spare her husband, than to make the discovery about her own sexuality.

ACTORS NOTE: Emma, Colleen and Page all deal with language so we're looking for intelligent actors with verbal acuity. Rebecca is also intelligent but more direct. Saffron is younger and so less able to use language, but she is more simple than stupid.

The role of REBECCA will be played by Michael Huston.

SEEKING:
EMMA Female. All ethnicities. (early to mid-30s) Lead. Attractive in many ways. Lovable. During the course of the play, she discovers her sexuality. It surprises her. She is learning to live in the moment but still makes decisions based on trying to spare the feelings of the people she loves. May become frustrated with having other people insist on defining her when she's having a hard time defining herself. Actress should not seem butch or obviously a lesbian. We should not suspect that she’s gay, but she doesn’t have to seem like an ultra femme, either. Not weepy or wistful. Complicated, and confident, even when she’s lost, always tries her best. Great language skills, a must.

COLLEEN Female. All ethnicities. (early to mid-30s) Lead. Emma's new girlfriend. Very attractive, Hot even, with an apparent emotional invulnerability. Very sharp-witted, smart as a whip. She is in every way a threat to Emma's ex-husband. That apparent visible strength naturally masks her own real vulnerability when she begins to understand just how important Emma becomes to her, and how much she needs the relationship. A lipstick lesbian. Exotic. Exciting. Dynamic. Requires a very smart, verbal actor. Actress must be excellent with language, a great sense of dialogue.

PAGE Male. All ethnicities. (Early to mid-30s) Supporting. Emma's husband. A real 'man', a good guy. Thought the relationship was working perfectly. When she leaves him, it rocks his entire world. He becomes a man at sea. Normally very loving, understanding, patient, he is left with no coping skills when his wife leaves him for a woman. He can't seem to get on with his life. Is positive she's made a mistake and will come to understand that. He'll be waiting. Good sense of humor, and complex.

SAFFRON Female. All ethnicities. (early 20s, and looks it). A model with acting experience, or an actress who fits the following description: A waif model, wants to date Page. A babe in the woods with a serious daddy complex. Is so totally in love with Page, she'll do whatever she can to keep him. Her jealous streak is more a product of her youth than experience. Plus, she's smart enough to put together that Page is still in love with his wife. Very protective of her relationship with him. Naïve, an open book. Easily influenced.

THE WRATH OF APHRODITE
This is one of five fully-produced AEA Showcases which comprise GAYFEST NYC, a festival of new GLBT plays. GAYFEST NYC, Inc. is a 501 (c) (3) not-for-profit corporation whose beneficiary is Harvey Milk High School in Manhattan.
More information can be found at www.GAYFESTNYC.com.

THE PLOT: Sex, love, jealousy, betrayal and violence pave the way for the final showdown in this radical re-imaging of the Greek tragedy. A handsome prince and his gang of friends have pledged celibacy but their devotion to chastity becomes much more difficult when the young prince realizes that his best friend is in love with him. Then things really get out of hand when his stepmother falls under the spell of Aphrodite and grows mad with lust towards him. Which love will survive the wrath of Aphrodite?

SEEKING:
HIPPOLYTUS Male. All ethnicities. (early-mid 20s). LEAD. Young prince of Troezen, a pious worshiper of Artemis. Son of Theseus. Sworn to chastity until he realizes his love for his friend Adonis. Handsome, youthful, proud; can be self-righteous at times. Very good athletic ability. Stage combat experience, a plus.

ADONIS Male. (early-mid 20s) LEAD. Hippolytus' best friend and eventual lover. Renowned for his attractive appearance. Deeply sensitive; he is much more comfortable with his sexuality, feelings and emotions than Hippolytus. Very good athletic ability. Stage combat experience, a plus.

APHRODITE Female. All ethnicities (30s) LEAD. Goddess of love and beauty. She is the embodiment of raw sexuality, yet remains elegant of speech. Gorgeous, snobbish, mischievous and manipulative.

ARTEMIS Female. All ethnicities. (mid 30's – early 40s) Goddess of hunt and of chastity, she is purity personified. Wise, noble, refined, and a thorn in Aphrodite's side. She not only has the gift of divine clarity and justice, but the ability to see the truth in a human soul.

IONE Female. All ethnicities (late 20s) Born an Amazon, raised a servant, she becomes Phaedra's faithful nurse, confidante and friend. Wise beyond her years, protective, nurturing, but fierce when provoked. Lean and looks as if she were capable of defending herself in battle. At least 5'8". Very good athletic ability. Stage combat experience, a plus.

PHAEDRA Female. All ethnicities. (early-mid 30s). Young wife of Theseus. Beautiful and well-intentioned, if a bit spoiled. She is innocent and unworldly in a way that none of the other characters are. Phaedra is ultimately driven insane by Aphrodite's trickery; must be capable of high emotions.

THESEUS Male. All ethnicities. (mid 40s to early 50s). Warrior King of Troezen. Married to Phaedra. In his youth, he was one of the greatest heroes of Greece, and in his middle-age remains formidable. Large, powerful, kingly.

ATALANTA Female. All ethnicities. (early-mid 20s) A friend of Hippolytus and worshiper of Artemis. Tomboyish, wishes to be a warrior, funny with a serious side. It is through her eyes that we come to understand how unfairly life treats women, even those of exalted, royal blood. Very good athletic ability. Stage combat experience, a plus.

MELEAGER Male. All ethnicities. (early-mid 20s) A friend of Hippolytus. A shortish, muscled bulldog of a fellow, constantly randy due to repressing his sexual nature. Should also be funny and quirky. Very good athletic ability. Stage combat experience, a plus.

PERSEUS Male. All ethnicities. (early-mid 20s) A friend of Hippolytus. Wry, sarcastic, witty, almost a bit of an intellectual. Perseus must absolutely be physically different from Meleager – maybe tall, thin, wiry. No need to be handsome but should be intriguing-looking. Meleager and Persus should be a classic "Mutt and Jeff" team – despite their bickering, they are deeply loyal to Hippolytus and each other. Other than that, their only goal in life is to get laid. Very good athletic ability. Stage combat experience, a plus.

Poignant coming-of-age story follows four high school friends as they reunite one year after graduation to discover how dramatically their lives have grown apart. Seeking two actors to understudy the following roles. (This production is coming directly to Broadway from this season's critically-acclaimed production at Arlington, Virginia's Signature Theatre. All four onstage actors are continuing in their roles, but understudies are needed.)

Must have a fantastic folk/pop voice. Tenor, Low B - High A.

Andy: Onstage role cast, understudy sought. Seeking actor to play age 18. Athletic and attractive with a great sense of humor. JUMPING BLIND

SUMMARY: What if you had to choose between country and love? During World War II, an English resistance fighter and a wounded German soldier fall in love in occupied France. During the final fight of the resistance, they are drawn into a furtive, passionate affair and on the eve of D-Day both are forced to make choices that will haunt them the rest of their lives. Jumping Blind is inspired by a true story of unique heroism, sacrifice and lifelong love.

ACTORS NOTE: No accents/dialects will be used. In other words, actors will perform in a Standard American accent, aka ‘mid-atlantic’, no matter where their character is ‘from’.

SEEKING:
RIVIERE Caucasian Male. (mid 50s-early 60s) An Englishman. Deeply unhappy, self-critical, a sharp and incisive sense of humor. Despite believing that he made the biggest mistake of his mistake-packed life 30-40 years ago, something happens today that makes him believe that he may be able to reverse that mistake, and this gives him a hopeful energy that counteracts his natural cynicism. AGE-RANGE NOTE: Actors who play 60s is what we’re aiming for, to feel that this is the character’s ‘last chance’. We will definitely consider actors who play 50s, but if they are too vigorous or young-looking, that won’t work.

EDWARD Caucasian Male. (mid-late 20s) to play Riviere’s younger self. Brimming with energy, hope and a desire for adventure--beneath a reserved, closeted surface. An unsuccessful actor who signs up for a dangerous mission during the War which sets him free. Disguising himself for the mission allows him to release his true self, which is romantic, open, loyal, vulnerable and, at times, wild. Instantly likeable.

GERHARD Caucasian Male. (mid-late 20s) German. The perfect, handsome Aryan soldier who suddenly becomes vulnerable and confused. German in the deeply romantic, soulful sense – a lover of poetry, music and culture who has been living in a nightmare. An injured soldier whose wounds are deeper than physical; he is beginning to understand that everything he has believed about his country and his identity is false. Actor should look physically fit.

FRIEDA Caucasian Female. Any age (or late 30s-early 40s to play 20s AND 60s.) English. Young Frieda is a plain, nervous, excited, unsophisticated secretary-type who suddenly finds herself coming into her own on a secret mission. Unexpected reserves of courage compliment her natural practicality. Falls in love with Edward, and remains his closest friend (despite his apparent indifference) for life. Older Frieda is proud, forceful and takes no prisoners.

MADELEINE Caucasian Female. (early-late 30s) French. A girl from a lower middle-class family who has become a prostitute to do what she has to do to get through the war. Smarter and not as accommodating as she seems.

3 MEN, 1 WOMAN TO PLAY THE FOLLOWING, VARIOUS SPEAKING & NON-SPEAKING ROLES: ENGLISH RECRUITS, INSTRUCTORS, FRENCH MEN & WOMEN, GERMAN SOLDIERS, ETC. CHARACTER/TRANSFORMATIONAL ACTORS.

MAN 1 Caucasian Male (late 20s-mid 30s) Athletic build. To play JOE(cheeky English Bartender), ENGLISH PARACHUTE INSTRUCTOR, HANS(a threatening German soldier), FRENCH RESTAURANT OWNER(cautious), FIRST MAQUISARD(crude, French resistance fighter).

MAN 2 Caucasian Male. (early-late 40s). Thin & smart. To play English official SELSON(mysterious), a French BARMAN(standoffish), a French farmer FRANCOIS(salt-of-the-earth), a French aristocrat ALAIN who turns into a resistance leader(imperious and dangerous).

MAN 3 Caucasian Male (40s-50s) Voluble, large presence, in weight, stature or attitude. To play ENGLISH COLONEL (old school), JEAN (blowhard French butcher, but a good man).

WOMAN Caucasian Female (late 20s-early 30s) FRENCHWOMAN at the doctor’s door, SIMONE(generous, salt-of-the-earth French farmwoman, married to Francois), THERESE (frightened and alone, not so bright, trying to get by.)

Damn Yankees - Equity Principal Auditions
Producer: New York City Center / City Center Summer Stars Production $1,509/week minimum.

1st rehearsal: June 9, 2008. Runs July 5 – 27

Seeking:
Mr. Applegate: 40s - 60s. The Devil, literally. Suave, debonair, charming. A chameleon. Huckster, slick and smooth. At the mercy of his own ego. Requires a character singer with pitch and rhythm; should move well - soft shoe. Casting personnel state that a "star" is sought for this role.

Lola: 20s - early 40s. Funny and sexy. Not necessarily traditionally gorgeous, but insanely attractive. Able to sink a man with the swivel of a hip or the wink of an eye. The happiest home-wrecker on Applegate's staff, until Joe comes along. Warm. Hot and sweet, not trashy or cheap. Requires a great comedienne — singer, dancer, actress. Character/belt singer to a C. Casting personnel state that a "star" is sought for this role.

Gloria: 30s – 40s. Small-time, hard-nosed reporter, always on the lookout for a scoop. Ambitious. Has a sharp mind and even sharper tongue. Funny, fierce, trim, quick on the take. B-flat 3 to D-flat 5. Strong traditional Broadway belt.

Joe Boyd: 50s - early 60s. Average, working-class, middle-aged guy. Frustrated with aging. Loves the game. Essentially decent, but tempted with a wily streak of his own. Must be able to touch his toes. Baritenor, D3 to E4.

Joe Hardy: Tall. Attractive. Handsome and appealing, fresh. The perfect athlete. An earnest, small- town boy. All American. Old Joe's younger self. Confident, but not cocky. Still in love with Meg, and trying to be true. Baritone, A2 to F4.

Meg: 40s - early 60s. Joe's wife. Deeply in love with Joe, even if he doesn't acknowledge her affections or show his appreciation for her. Not a baseball fan. Loyal and trustworthy--the perfect 1950's wife. Soprano, G3 to F5.

Doris: Late 40s - early 60s. A busybody, trying to be hip and putting on a show of using the latest slang. Star-struck baseball fanatic. Nosy and critical. Thinks she's the queen bee, but has good intentions. Funny. Harmless. Character singer.

Sister: 50s - 60s. Doris's friend. Equally silly and fame-obsessed. Another small-town housewife. Sweet, funny, a little ditzy. Not as pushy as Doris. Funny, a comedienne. Mezzo soprano. B-flat 3 to D5. Character singer.

Welch: 50s - 60s. Owner of the Senators. Big shot. Man of means. Businessman. Knows what he has in Joe, and wants to spin it as best he can. Has a politician's slick instincts, but protective of his players. Non-singing.

Van Buren: 50s - 60s. Luckless manager of the Senators. Tries to keep the ragtag team together, but is at his wit's end trying to keep the players on track. He is the heart and soul of the team. A mentor to the guys; a soft touch. Tenor, E-flat 3 to F4.

Smokey: Player on the Senators. A big lug. A little dense. Real working-class guy. Not the brightest bulb in the box. Tries hard, has lots of heart, but doesn't quite get it. Tall, can carry a little gut. Baritenor, E-flat 3 to F4.

Rocky: The Senators' pitcher. Tall, skinny and funny-looking. An anxious guy, neurotic and dim. Freezes when faced with the Yankees. Funny. Tenor, E-flat 3 to B-flat 4.

Mambo Dancer: Man, 20s - 30s. "Star" dance spot. Lola's partner in the talent show. Phenomenal dancer and a good singer. Dances/sings in "Who's Got The Pain". Has a thing for Lola. Played by Bob Fosse in the movie.

Some Past Industry Event Accolades (Industry & Actors) ...
I am always impressed with the caliber of Jagger Kaye's students. Its
obvious that he takes the time to teach them both the practical
business as well as the rudiments of what makes an interesting
performance or audition. As someone who is still out there himself
auditioning and working, Jagger brings a practical working man's
perspective to his classes and that is truly unique
Kevin McShane
Owner
Fifi Oscard Agency

Jagger- I was incredibly impressed by the quality performances I saw
in your class. Your students are confident, professional, well
prepared and willing to make exciting choices with the material they
are working on. I'd be more than willing to come back anytime to watch
more, it was an enjoyable evening!
Erin Mayhugh
Casting Director

&

Here are just a few that enjoyed our past events:

Thank YOU!!! I had so much fun the whole time (never thought that was
possible on a seminar). I felt completely comfortable to go in front
of Kevin because of the way you prepared us. Can't wait to do it
again!
THANK YOU!
Julia Price

Hey Jagger
I loved the seminar. The best part was being able to do it in front of
you first, almost like a mini dress rehearsal, and than being able to
do it with him. It really relaxed my nerves and I was able to be
myself. You will be seeing me in your seminars for sure! I'll think
about the classes.
Thank you soooo much,
Karen Summerton

Jagger,
Thank you for the meet & Greet with Erin. It was nice to get up in
front of two bona fide industry professionals such as yourselves.
Jason Goodrich

Good morning Jagger,
Thanks for holding the event. Okay I admit I was tentative about the
whole thing after a previous experience with another "agency". But
this was a very different experience. The other thing I thought was
valuable was that it was a LIMITED number of people in the group.
Unlike others who try to jam as many people into the seminars as they
possibly can. Nobody wins in those situations. Everything is too
rushed and the actors and Casting Directors feel like they are forced
into an assembly line situation. Which was part of the reason I was
tentative in the first place to attend this...however, after last
night didn't feel like that at all...and everyone was very relaxed and
happy because of it.Your assistants were terrific too, they were on
the ball with keeping everyone ready to go and answering questions.
I look forward to the next one.
Stephanie Van Vlack

It was great and I appreciate your tips and help. I've gone to
seminars like this before and it was not as professional as yours.
Catherine Pierce

Thanks, Jagger. I've been to similar things before and this was by
far the best organized . . . I really felt prepared.
Eric Johnson

Thank you so much for yesterday, I gotta say it was much better then
other facilities. You made everything real comfortable. I hope you
have a lot more with other casting directors cause I will be there.
Jaiden

Thanks Jagger for letting me in the seminar. I learned a lot if
anything else. You're a real genuine guy and I always learn and take
something from your classes.
Thanks
Joe Barbagallo

I would love to attend this event! The Kevin McShane event was great
and I want to continue meeting these people, if they're agreeing to do
an event with you then I know they're awesome and serious!
Thanks!

Jagger
Your classes are easily the most fun and the most worthwhile acting lessons I've
ever taken! The price of course is phenomenal - but really irrelevant. Above all
else, the classes are both fun and valuable- a powerful combination! Your
unbelievable level of energy- coupled with your perceptive and valuable
observations and constructive feedback- tough, necessary but also nurturing-
contribute to an atmosphere of learning which just blows away the competition.
Other acting classes I've taken were relatively boring, usually with just a
minimum time to perform - 5 minutes in a 3 hour class? - and were long on
theory, short on execution. (Sometimes there was ALL theory and virtually little
time devoted to actually acting.) In your classes we roll up our sleeves and get
right to work learning how to become a character and tell the story, there is a
maximum time for everyone to perform, which is great!- and when it's time to
watch others, your feedback and guidance regarding their performances is so
on-the -money (I think you're a f'n genius!) well, watching the other class
members work on a scene and then perform has become a tremendously valuable -
and very enjoyable learning experience.
Stevenn Beck

My dear Jagger,
You've created a performing monster!
Not only do I credit you with getting my SAG card via a principal role, but now
I've booked a union industrial to go along with a commercial print job......all
handled by one of New York/LA's top agencies. All told, the gig is worth over
$6000. You taught me how to handle any audition with self- confidence. That
confidence comes through even in print "go-sees." AND you encouraged me to "stay
in the game" even though I was 60+ when I started this second career. I'll be
booking more private time so watch out. Thank you so much.
Rita Cronin

Dear Jagger,
Ever since I met you you've been nothing but helpful to not only me, but dozens
of other actors. Your classes are informative and fun at the same time. You make
us work hard, but don't let us leave without learning something. I think it's
great that you now have workshops where actors can meet agents and casting
directors. And the best part is that you make all your classes and workshops
affordable to actors of all levels. The most amazing part is that you have the
Christmas charity show (A Very Jaggered XMAS) every year for children living
with AIDS. You truly do have a heart of gold!
Thank you so much for everything! I can't thank you enough!
Seregon O'Dassey

An actor's dream for success costs a lot of money and sometimes what we get in
return lacks in quality. This is far from the case with Jagger Kaye's classes.
Yes, the cost is low, but it's what you get out of the course that means more. I
had the pleasure of meeting Jagger one year when I participated in his annual A
Very Jaggered X-Mas charity show. I was taken by how this larger than life man
could make people laugh all the while doing something wonderful for children he
would never meet. Then I joined his beginning acting class. I was blow away by
his professionalism and his ability to communicate the information in a
constructive way. The interaction between student and teacher was an vital part
of his methods. Immediately following this class I booked a short film. I signed
on for his first Comedic Acting class and enjoyed every minute of it. We all
prepared very hard for the performances and when one cast member had to pull out
of the show at the last minute, I was proud when Jagger asked me to step up. It
showed he had faith in me and my ability. Due to my new found confidence from
this class, I booked an indy tv pilot and an indy feature film will be released
to film festivals this fall. I am very thankful to not only have learned from
someone who knows his craft but also continue to participate in a wonderful
charity event. Thank you Jagger for everything you do!
Kimberly Amato

Dear Jagger,
Get this! Soon after I took your Commercial Intensive I had an opportunity to
audition for an AMEX Commercial. After a few days I got the call back. This was
my first audition for a professional advertisement and I was able in a short
amount of time apply what you taught in class. What can I say...Thank you
Jagger. Your classes are short and sweet and to the point and of course
affordable. I really like the fact that it does not take a long amount of time
to learn important aspects of acting and to present yourself with confidence.
With all the tips and remarks that you gave me so far I feel I can tackle any
audition room! For that: Kudos to you. Mucho Kudos. Looking forward to many more
Classes and Performances with you.
