Hamlet Equity Principal Auditions
New York Shakespeare Festival/The Public Theater
Author: William Shakespeare
Director: Oskar Eustis
1st rehearsal: April 14, 2008. Runs May 27 - June 29 at the Delacorte Theatre in Central Park.
Casting Directors note: ALL ACTORS MUST HAVE STRONG COMMAND OF CLASSICAL TEXT.
Seeking:
Claudius: Late 40s 50s. Hamlets uncle, stepfather and now the King of Denmark. Although his ascension to the throne after his brothers death is sudden, there is nothing obviously out of joint in his quick rise to power. He is a thoughtful, intelligent and well-liked man who is genuinely confounded by his stepsons erratic behavior. But, power corrupts.
Gertrude: 40s 50s. Hamlets mother. In a society where a womans status is defined entirely by marriage, she is compelled to hastily remarry after the Kings sudden death. She is a vital and beautiful woman who cannot afford, personally or politically, to slip unceremoniously into widowhood.
Horatio: 30s. In many ways the perfect friend. Hamlet is able to let his masks down and be entirely himself when hes with Horatio. He is not as sensitive as Hamlet, and in many ways presents the positive side of Hamlets more neurotic self. A practical, even-tempered thinker. Incorruptible.
Ophelia: 20s. Poloniuss daughter. Object of Hamlets affections, which she returns. A real daddys girl with little or no experience of the world around her. In a culture obsessed with education, she has been deliberately uneducated. Conventional and compliant, she hasnt been given the tools that would enable her to think for herself. As a result, she is unable to cope with the myriad of changes around her and slowly begins to lose touch with reality. The less connected she becomes to the world, the closer she becomes to finding her own voice.
Laertes: Late 20s early 30s. Poloniuss son. Emotional and wired, his focus and certainty are appealing in contrast to Hamlets constant vacillating. If Hamlet manifests self-doubt and inaction, Laertes is ALL action and certainty. He is confident in his own impulses, and is never plagued by self- doubtuntil its too late. Loyal and ultimately vengeful son. A great swordsman.
Rosencrantz and Guildenstern: 30s. Hamlets friends. In contrast to Hamlets relationship with Horatio, these friendships are based on utility and pleasure only. They are entertaining guys who are fun to be around, but they are not fundamentally reliable. They are false and malleable, and Hamlet constantly mocks their lack of authenticity whilst simultaneously worrying that he is just like them. Impressed by power. Social and political climbers. These are roles for both strong comedic and dramatic actors.
The Ghost: 50s +. Restless ghost of Hamlets murdered father. Powerful presence who was, in many ways, the perfect embodiment of both monarch and father. This role will most likely double with The Player King: Great actor capable of genuinely moving his audience. Not a ham.
The Player Queen: 30s - 40s. Leading lady in the company of actors Hamlet has hired to entertain the court.
Fortinbras: Late 20s - early 30s. Young prince of Norway. Represents all that is positive in the world. A young man ready to take over with a genuine interest in learning how to rule well. His inherent goodness is perhaps a sign that Hamlet didnt die in vain.
Also seeking male Equity actors to play smaller speaking roles (ages 30s 40s) which include
Osric: A true eccentric, not a dismissible fool. Messenger or master of ceremonies of sorts. Strong comedic actor.
Bernardo / Marcellus / Francisco: Two career soldiers, more of the working class, but raised along with Hamlet. Loyal and pragmatic friends. Honest.
The roles of Hamlet and Polonius/Gravedigger are CAST (Michael Stuhlbarg and Richard Easton, respectively) . Auditioning performers will be considered as possible replacements, should any become necessary.

Ladies and Gents Equity Principal Auditions
Irish Arts Center
Producers: Aidan Connolly, Georganne Heller
Managing Director: Brdn Murphy-Mitchell
Writer: Paul Walker
Director: Paul Walker
Original Direction: Karl Shiels
Artistic Associate: David Sullivan
Casting: Calleri Casting, Paul Davis
$350/week minimum
Theatre states that it offers $400/week
1st rehearsal: March 3, 2008. Runs March 17 22 and March 24 29, three performances nightly (at 7, 8 and 9 PM) at The Public Toilets at the Bethesda Fountain in Central Park (at 72nd Street). Running time is 35 minutes.
US / NY Premiere of Fringe First award-winning noir thriller, set against the backdrop of highly repressed, deeply conservative 1950s Dublin.
Seeking versatile actors with strong command of an Irish accent for the following roles:
Watson: Man, late 30s mid 40s. Bred from the finest Irish high society, but cut off by his disapproving family; now runs an escort service with his wife Emily. Lost and often weak and with an undercurrent of shame, hes devoted solely to his wife.
Mr X: Man, mid 40s 50s. Irish surgeon who detests the lower classes, though he has voyeuristic tendencies. Menacing and quite cold; the sort of man who gives shivers up the back with a mere look. Extremely focused and clinical.
Stranger: Man, 30s 50s. Working class, Dublin. Odd-looking man who wouldnt be out of place at a freak show. Has absolutely no morals; killing to him means absolutely nothing. Its a job. Views everyone the same; king or pauper, we all put our trousers on one leg at a time.
Billy: Male, late teens/early 20s. Disarmingly youthful and nave in appearance. Seemingly affable, but steely underneath. Talks the talk, but you wonder if he can walk the walk.
News Vendor: Man, 20s 30s. Likable and effortlessly charismatic and engaging. Serves as the emcee/guide to the audience. Seeking a confident actor experienced with improvisation and working with crowds. Hooks the audience with the lure of scandal and a hint of trepidation.
Emily: CAST. Auditioning performers will be considered as possible replacements, should one become necessary. Woman, 30s. Working-class background. Oozes sexuality. Scrubs up well. Detests the upper class and their double standards, but still dreams of the day they will accept her as an equal.

-Jamie Fullam
Hey Jagger
LOVED the Commercial Intensive Workshop tonight!!! You really do have amazing energy, and your skills and perception brought out the best in everyone in the class! My biggest problem is making the right choices. Your coaching helped a lot with that, but I still wish I could carry you in my pocket to my next audition I guess I need to take a few more classes from you...
I'm looking forward to attending your casting events!
Thanks again!
Lynn
Dear Jagger,
It was such a delight to finally be able to take your Commercial Intensive class. And while I have been in and out of this business for years and worked on plenty of non-union commercials in Texas, I am ready to take my game to the next level. Your class was just what I needed.
Your commercial copy exercise at the end was worth it's weight in gold. Not only from my personal experience, but from being able to watch everyone else's choices and then the miraculous changes after you had given a new approach to reading the copy.
I am happy to have you as part of my 'arsenal' and look forward to celebrating when I book my big national SAG commercial (Soon! I know it will be soon!)
Mucho mucho thanks!
Kim Chapman

I wanted to take a moment to thank you for your Commercial Intensive last night. Getting a 360 perspective was invaluable. More often than not, instructors dont pay attention to the minute, yet essential details which help the first timer. Its those goods that can make the difference between feeling comfortable, or not, during what can be a stressful time for the uninitiated.
Best
Debbie Friedlander
Jagger
I had to run out right after class for a meeting so I did not get to tell you in person how absolutely wonderful your class was this evening! It was great to finally get to meet you in person, and I can not wait to sign up for more of your workshops/classes. Thank you!
Meghan Moore
Hi, I was in your recent commercial intensive, I liked the vibe and would like to take your upcoming offer for ACTING FOR BEGINNERS & COMEDIC ACTING (with a show)!
Thank you,
Shino Frances
Here is what "some" had to say ...
I attended Jagger's Commercial Intensive last night (Jan 7th) and it was a three hour whirlwind that ended too quickly. In addition to doing a realistic mock Audition that left you with butterflies and Jagger's helpful and honest comments, we did a group commercial read of different commercials. It was very interesting to hear a bunch of people doing different reads and then to hear Jagger's comments for everyone. I took a lot from it. It was the real deal!! I highly recommend it. Thanks.
Joe Assante
Hey Jagger,
Thanks again for having me in your commercial class on Monday night. Looking forward to some industry nights in the future!
Kevin
Thank you, Jagger. I found the class to be very valuable. You'll definitely be seeing me in your classes and workshops again.
Best,
Maxwell Zener
Today was terrific. Your classes are always chock full of good stuff, and today was no exception. You not only got fantastic results out of each of us, you taught us how to "own" that ability. In a way, you took us all behind the magician's curtain, and showed us how to perform the tricks on our own. Amazing.
I am totally ready to get my SAG card and make the big buckeroos.
Mimi Weisbond
I REALLY enjoyed your class. I have a few commercial classes already I yours was very much worth my time. I feel even better about going out there to audition. Also, thank you so much for staying after and letting me ask you additional questions. I really appreciate it. I will definitely be taking more workshops through your program. Yay!
Jodi Skeris
Dear Jagger,
Get this! Soon after I took your Commercial Intensive I had an opportunity to audition for an AMEX Commercial. After a few days I got the call back. This was my first audition for a professional advertisement and I was able in a short amount of time apply what you taught in class. What can I say...Thank you Jagger.
Your classes are short and sweet and to the point and of course affordable. I really like the fact that it does not take a long amount of time to learn important aspects of acting and to present yourself with confidence. With all the tips and remarks that you gave me so far I feel I can tackle any audition room! For that: Kudos to you. Mucho Kudos. Looking forward to many more Classes and Performances with you.
Monika Baskiewicz
Hey Jagger,
Thank you for the commercial intensive. It was $ well spent - I learned a ton! I'm very excited for the upcoming commercial season.
Ashton Giaume
Jagger
Thanks again for the great class. I had a lot of fun and can't believe how much I learned so quickly!!!
Julia Price
JK, thank you for the informative class last night. And I really enjoyed the faux audition and feedback.
I hope to arrange my schedule for the October event, thank you for the opportunity to participate.
Best,
Robin Haden
Jagger, i was trying to wait around to say Thanks , but the line was kinda long & i didn't want to impinge on your down time before your 4:30 class. Anyway, although i've been making my living as an Actor since '96, Commercial acting is something i'm a novice at. I've booked two local (Phila.) lottery commercials & auditioned and had a callback for one Nat'l , but that's it. I really enjoyed your class on Sunday and gained a lot of solid, practical info for when (and if) i should get signed by a Commercial Agent. Your energy was infectious, your knowledge of the subject matter impressive and i really liked the improv you employed to get us to reach for another level during our "take two" commercial reads. Bravo! I look forward to taking another one of your classes in the near future. Hopefully, i'll get to work with you on a film or tv show one day. Regards,
B. A. Wilson
I just wanted to let you know that I really enjoyed the commercial class this weekend. You really just tell it like it is and that's exactly what I needed to hear. I would love to take one of your acting classes but I'm going back to CA soon (I'm from a small town in northern CA not L.A. so you don't have to hate me haha). Hopefully I will get another chance next time I am in NY. Thanks again for everything, I will definitely be recommending you to friends!
Best Wishes,
C. Huls :)
Thank you I really appreciate the information, the experience was great I will definitely be in touch for other classes. also signing up for the agent interviews you were talking about. thanks I will stay in touch
Best regards
A. Izzo
Hi Jagger,
I just wanted to say THANK YOU for such great class today!
A. Norris
Jagger, I loved your class. It was packed with great and useful information and was worth every penny and every minute. Thank you for such an effective and awesome class! It was great!
S. Foshee
Hi Jagger!
Thanks so much for the class yesterday, I had a blast! It was great to get solid tips from someone who's been booking. I especially think creating a before/after the product will really help me. And it was really great to be cast in your mock-commercial, I definitely left feeling confident!
Cheers,
J. Montosi
I had a great time!
Thanks for all the great information, some things I already knew, but notes about agents and specifics about meeting them were invaluable! Thanks, plus the class is just good ole fun!
I'll contact you about the next class for sure!
Best,
A. Woodward
Hi Jagger
How do you keep up that incredible energy? This morning I feel like I got hit by a truck. Yesterday took out a lot out energy, (but put back in far more :) It was fun and exciting, but not without some high anxiety. I am a little shell shocked today, the class stirred up the bees in my emotional hive. I want you to know that in braving your acting class was just what I needed, and I thank you so much for that. Have a good week, and will see you again on Sunday
D. Mayer
Jagger,
I had a fantastic time at the intensive. I got a lot of information and clarification of information I'd already had. Also, I'd heard a lot about commercials, but didn't really think they were viable for me at all. Tonight made me rethink that as I'm making another push to get into the business (the money figures you threw around don't sound bad at all either). In addition, I hadn't performed in a -very- long time, so it was nice to get up there in front of people again. I remembered everything I've missed about performing.
So again, thanks so much.
C. Kess
Jagger
I must say, I attend few of this type of class, because I'm never sure what I will get out of them. You, my friend, made me a believer in your class. You are no- nonsense, upfront and honest guy, and boy did I learn. It was terrific, and I recommend your Commercial Intensive class to anyone who is serious about his or her career.
You are the best!
Bob L., Connecticut
Your Commercial class was outstanding, Jagger!
Role playing commercial auditions was very useful and your feedback was extremely beneficial.
The most valuable part was your insight on understanding the message behind the copy (this will give us an edge on the competition). I greatly appreciate your expertise and enjoyed the class tremendously!
OL
Thank you so much Jagger! It was a great class and I feel much more prepared for attacking copy and putting my own unique, entertaining interpretation on it!
Thanks again....
PO
Hey Jagger -
Just wanted to thank you for all the info you pumped into me yesterday. I learned more than I thought I would and you will most likely be seeing me in another class soon!
GM
Hey Jagger,
Thanks for the awesome class today! (I would have thanked you in person, but there was a massive crowd forming around the wise teacher...so I peaced out.)
Had a great time, and I'll definitely be seeing you again!
Take care!
AG
Jagger,
Your commercial intensive class was just that, intense. I learned more in a three hours with you than I have as long as I've been studying acting. Thank you for being the real deal. I also wanted reschedule a career help session for next week as well as get information on your on-going acting class.
JS
Dear Jagger,
Bottom line: What it worth it? Answer: Absolutely! The most affordable acting classes around! Even with a rebate, higher priced classes can't touch you!
Even with a discount and a rebate, higher priced classes can't touch you!
Bottom line: Did I learn anything? Answer: Absolutely! A more than effective, efficient approach to acting. It's a win-win situation.
Thank you,
RV
Jagger
You are a svengali ...loved your methods.
SC
Jagger - Thanks for the great workshop yesterday. I feel like I got a lot out of it. Even watching other actors make their choices and read their copy was educational. Thanks for keeping things moving along and fun. I hope I get a chance to work with you in the future.
GG
Dear Jagger,
Thank you so much for the commercial intensive. It was very helpful. Meeting you in person was one of the best parts, finally! I hope to continue to get to know you through classes and castings. Have a wonderful day
HG
(4 days later) - I just got a callback for a commercial. I did not book it but, a callback is just as fabulous. I am also freelancing with another commercial agent after she heard my commercial copy. Thank you so much for class. I will remember that the trick is no tricks, just always be myself relating to the product and circumstances.
So ... JOIN THE FUN!
