Audition requirements:
You have four minutes for you audition. Please prepare:
One-minute monologue
30-35 measures from a rock musical song that shows your range. A song
from "Chess" is encouraged, but not required.
Open roles:
Anatoly (Russian)–Baritone (to G sharp) 30s/40s. Russian chess
champion, unexpectedly charming. He doesn't seem a romantic hero at
first, but becomes one. An intelligent, passionate man.
Freddie (American)–Rock Tenor (to C) 30s. American chess champion. A
cross between Bobby Fisher and John McEnroe. Arrogant and
temperamental, but a genius. His artistry along with his danger and
obsessiveness are clear.
Florence–Strong belt voice (to E) 30s. Hungarian born. Clever,
theatrical, touching, vivacious, volatile. Freddie's second.
Svetlana–Strong belt voice or a legit alto/second soprano. 30s/40s.
Anatoly's wife. Domestic, wholesome.
Molokov–Bass (down to F sharp). 40s/50s. Soviet agent. Intellectually
formidable. Anatoly's chess "second."
Walter–Bass Baritone (will consider casting this role as a female).
40s/50s. Marketing agent. Seemingly respectable, substantial,
trustworthy. Actor/actress who sings well.
Ensemble - casting 4 to 8 men and women with strong voices.
