Burien Little Theatre announces auditions for "Lysistrata," a modern
translation of Aristophanes' script.
Synopsis: A sexy comedy about making love not war. The women of
Greece make a pact to withhold their sexual favors until the men of
Athens and Sparta agree to end and endless war. This is a bawdy work
along the lines of Shakespeare's comedies.
Performances are at Burien Little Theatre in Burien from April 4
through April 27, 2008.
Auditions are Monday, January 28 and Tuesday, January 29 from 7 to 10
p.m. Callbacks are Wednesday, January 30 from 7 to 10 p.m.
Rehearsals begin Sunday, February 24.
Directed by Maggie Larrick.
$100 stipend provided.
We are seeking male and female actors to play characters ranging in age
from their 20s to early 50s.

CAST of CHARACTERS
Some actors will play multiple roles:
Lysistrata: An independent-minded Athenian woman who has had enough of
war and the treatment of women in Athens. She forms a coalition of the
women of Sparta and Athens to put an end to these problems.
Kleonike: Lysistrata's next-door neighbor. A feminine woman who loves
Lysistrat's strategy of using filmy lingerie and the feminine arts to
bring about peace.
Myrrhine: The second strongest woman in "Lysistrata." Able to seduce
her husband but refuse to have sex with him at the crucial moment.
Lampito: Representative of Spartan women. Large, well-built, strong.
Brings the Spartan women into Lysistrata's plan.
Ismenia: A Boitian girl who has a nice body and keeps herself well
tended.
Korinthian Girl: Accompanies Ismenia and Lampito to Lysistrata's
meeting and is known for a large behind.
Policewoman: Offers her shield for the women to make a sacrifice upon.
Koryphaios of Men: Stubborn, grouchy. Leads the Chorus of Old Men.
Chorus of Old Men: Teeter around trying to keep the women in line.
Will have physical struggles with the Old Women.
Koryphaios of Women: Leads the Chorus of Old Women in a successful
seizure of he Akropolis and outwits the men in every possible way.
Chorus of Old Women: Although frail, they fight to the last with the
men and achieve victory.
Commissioner of Public Safety: Head of security and law in Athens.
Completely overwhelmed by the women. Ends up being dressed as a woman.
Slow to follow Lysistrata's discussion about the future of Athens and
peace in the region.
Policemen: Humiliated again and again by the women, who easily scare
the Policemen away.
Kinesias: Myrrhine's needy braggart husband. The first man to be
affected by the sex strike, he arrives at the Akropolis, fully
enflamed.
Peace: Lysistrata's handmaid. A beauty used by Lysistrat to arouse
the men of Sparta and Athens while they are discussing a truce so that
they quickly make a deal.
Athenian women: Part of the "sit-in" at the Akropolis
Athenian delegation: Athenian men who negotiate the truce
